In the second post of this 3-post mini-series of embracing the Wes Anderson aesthetic, we unravel the hidden stories that lie within the tall buildings, quaint cafes, construction sites, and lonely lamp posts. Each frame offers a glimpse into the symphony of Bangalore's urban soul—a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, chaos and serenity.

As the city pulses with life, we pause to admire the architectural marvels that reach for the sky, their elegant facades standing as testaments to human ingenuity. Amidst the hustle and bustle, we discover tranquil pockets of nature, where trees whisper ancient tales and gardens bloom with vibrant colors.

Drawing inspiration from Wes Anderson's meticulous framing and color palettes, I sought to capture the playful essence of the city, weaving it with my own creative spirit. Each photograph becomes a canvas, where the beauty of Bangalore's urban landscapes finds its voice, inviting contemplation and awe.

Wes Anderson is renowned for his distinctive style, meticulous compositions, and vibrant color palettes. Within this new collection of photographs, we delve into the realm of "accidentally Wes Anderson” - a fusion of homage and originality.

These images (I hope) evoke a sense of nostalgia, peculiar charm, and meticulous symmetry reminiscent of Anderson's iconic cinematography. They capture the harmony of everyday life, where beauty emerges unexpectedly, and stories unfold within the intricacies of architecture, landscapes, and human interactions.

In my pursuit to emulate his aesthetics, I yearned to transcend mere imitation and delve into the realm of personal expression. While I drew inspiration from his distinctive style, I sought to infuse it with my own creative essence.

Life's symphony is not limited to movie screens alone. It dances all around us, waiting to be captured and shared. And this is my humble attempt at sharing something that has probably an iota of cinematic splendor. May this collection serve as a testament to the power of inspiration, the beauty of personal interpretation, and the eternal pursuit of creative autonomy.

In the realm of golden hues and cyan dreams, I present to you the first post featuring a train engine that carries the weight of forgotten tales and timeless melodies. The YG #3334 Meter gauge Steam Loco engine. With colors that dance in harmony—golden, black, and red—we embark on a visual journey that echoes the spirit of Wes Anderson's cinematic masterpieces. It has my classical long-exposure touch and subtle amber glow. A definite shift from the muted tones my landscapes generally follow. I couldn’t think of a better carousel to start this mini-series with.

/of bens, beaches, and backwaters

Almost 4 months back, we embarked on a journey of witnessing frames created during my '3 states in 3 weeks' trip. 3 states over 3 weeks via 3 different airlines to cater to the 3 primary elements of life: friends, passion, and work. And today we are reaching its conclusion.

This photo series was my humble attempt to take you along with me on the ride to the beautiful parts of India featuring beaches bathing in the pale golden sun and the neon purple afterglow in the sky, the lush green backwaters with chance encounters of grey, murky clouds sprinkled throughout, and the scenic western mountain ranges; with a hint of magic on the side.

I hope that these frames teleport-ed you to the scene (or at least some of them did). And I sincerely wish you found something new in these or felt that you have experienced something with a fresh perspective.

If you did, don’t shy away from letting me know. An artist learns from feedback.

Is it desire or is it love that I feel for you?
You, the intangible-enigmatic-yet-so-authentic-and-real agency that has me besotted.
The notion - the feeling - the activity - the process - the metaphysical feeling that leaves me beatific.
The escape velocity of my soul.
The equilibrium point of my mind’s gyroscope.
The Gale-force wind that drives me on.
To my north star, I think and hope.

It rarely heads in the direction everyone goes.
Oh, the route it takes - to discover and explore,
The hitherto unexperienced horizons of beauty,
The determination of finding an antidote.
To the molested frames and locations.
Places and perspectives.
To the look-alike landscapes.
The ones “Instagram-able” for sure.

The current is strong, I know.
But just like this dragonfly, I will fly.
With the agency of photography as a cornerstone,
I’ll try to see and show you as well,
Given you give my mediocre artistic representations a try.
So, I will be on my way,
I hope you understand.
Always seem to want what I can't have.
Then I hit the road when it gets bad.

/of mysteries of life

Have you ever wondered how come you are where you are? Happy or sad, elated or dejected, pro at things or still learning the ropes, bubbling with ideas or trite, full of life or empty within. If you think hard enough, maybe you will be able to point in the general direction of what lead you here. It is highly unlikely you will be able to identify the defining moment of the rise or the fall.

They are mysteries of life. And more often than not, we get lost in them. Why? Because we look at it as something that needs to be solved - a tangible construct that requires answers. We have got it all wrong. Imagine you are hiking on a trail on a foggy morning. The greyness of the skies has sucked the greens off of the groves that surround you. You really wanted to see the sunrise. Dejected, you start your descent, although your excitement has already taken the elevator down.

You keep walking, maintaining your pace, reminding yourself it’s not always sunshine and butterflies with every maneuver until that fateful turn. At first, your mind cannot register what your eyes are seeing. There’s a dreamy tangerine glow of the excitement that you started the hike with enveloped with a deep purple glow of the crestfallen morale of missing the sunrise. Pockets of light giving the greens a new life.

What would you do here? Would you revisit all the science and geography lectures to figure out what caused this surreal explosion of colors in front of you or would you take a deep breath and soak this all in - experience it? The answer to the mysteries of life is the same as your answer to the above question. You don’t have to solve them; you have to contemplate them. They are not problems to be solved, but experiences to be had.

The austere sun descends above the sea, orange cyclops eyes scorning to look longer on this landscape of chagrin; feathered dark in thought.

As the sun slips beyond the horizon, the sky is illuminated with an array of haunting hues. The sea is still as if paralyzed by the surreal display. Shadows stretch towards you, whispering of impending doom. The clouds ignite with a fiery glow, casting an omen of warning that leaves you uneasy. A sense of foreboding creeps up your spine, and you shudder at the mysterious atmosphere that grips you.

The world is swallowed by a deepening darkness, the colors fading away into obscurity. The last remnants of the sun flicker, and the sea is cloaked in an inky blackness. A gust of wind transfixes and overwhelms you with the silence that surrounds you. It is as if the world is holding its breath, waiting for the inevitable.

As the sun finally slips away, leaving nothing but an ominous void, you are left alone with your thoughts. The spectacle of the strange sunset leaves you with a sense of dread; consumed by the stark reality of your own mortality.
